The Busan Film Commission (Chairperson: Kang Sung Kyu) has announced the full schedule for the 2025 ASEAN-ROK Film Community Programme, marking the final edition of the initiative to be held in Busan.

Launched in 2012, the ASEAN-ROK Film Community Programme has served as a unique platform for knowledge-sharing and collaborative growth between Korea and ASEAN countries. The initiative leverages Busan’s experience and infrastructure as a leading film and audiovisual city and is co-hosted by the Busan Metropolitan City, Busan Film Commission, and the Asian Film Commissions Network (AFCNet), with support from the ASEAN-ROK Cooperation Fund (AKCF). Having completed its 10-year tour across all 10 ASEAN member states, the final year of the program features four main events: a post-production workshop, a curated media art exhibition, a short filmmaking workshop, and a film festival.

The opening event, FLY Post Lab, will take place from May 25 to 30, across Busan and Gyeonggi Province. Designed for professionals from ASEAN film industries, this intensive workshop includes visits to Korea’s leading post-production studios, focusing on workflows, budgeting, scheduling, and industry case studies. Participating companies include CJ ENM Studio Center, C-47 Post Studio, XON Studio, and Westworld, offering practical training in cutting-edge technologies such as AI and LED wall-based production. The program aims to enhance participants' understanding of industry standards and improve their practical skills.

From June 12 to November 9, a curated media exhibition will be held at the KF ASEAN Culture House in Haeundae, Busan, in collaboration with the Korea Foundation. Since 2023, this exhibition has invited FLY alumni to submit works under a new annual theme, promoting ongoing creativity and encouraging expansion into media art. This year’s theme is “Architecture”, and selected directors will each receive up to $5,000 in production support to create video works showcasing diverse architectural forms from their respective countries.

The program’s flagship event, the ASEAN-ROK Film Leaders Incubator: FLY2025, will take place over 15 days from September 4 to 19. Set primarily in Songdo, Busan, the workshop gathers 22 promising young filmmakers (2 per country) from Korea and all 10 ASEAN countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. FLY fosters the next generation of Asian film talent and promotes international collaboration. The participant recruitment took place from March 31 to April 13, and the final list will be announced in June. Since its launch in Davao, Philippines in 2012, FLY has traveled to Hua Hin, Thailand (2013),  Yangon, Myanmar (2014), Johor Bahru, Malaysia (2015), Phnom Penh, Cambodia (2016), Yogyakarta, Indonesia (2017), Singapore (2018), Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei (2019), Da Lat, Vietnam (2023), and Vientiane, Laos (2024).

The grand finale, the FLY Film Festival, will be held over four days in early November at the Busan Cinema Center. Returning after 8 years since its last edition in 2017, the festival will invite alumni, mentors, and industry experts to celebrate the program’s achievements and facilitate international networking. A public call for submissions will be held in the second half of the year. The festival will also host forums, case studies, and roundtable sessions as part of its expanded industry programming.

Kang Sung-kyu, Chair of the Busan Film Commission, stated, “This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Busan International Film Festival and reflects Busan’s journey as a leading hub of Asian cinema. The 2025 ASEAN-ROK Film Community Programme not only serves as the culmination of over a decade of partnership and achievement but also as a new beginning for expanded future collaboration.”
