The grand finale of the ASEAN-ROK Film Community Programme (FLY), the 2025 FLY Film Festival will be held at the Busan Cinema Center from 3-6 November 2025. The event is jointly hosted by the Busan Metropolitan City and Busan Film Commission with funding support from the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Fund (AKCF).

Making its comeback after the last FLY Film Festival in 2017, this year’s festival carries the slogan of “FLY Forward”, embodying the spirit of young filmmakers from Korea and ASEAN who are growing together and seeking new cinematic vision.

“This year’s FLY Film Festival marks both the conclusion of the ASEAN-ROK Film Community Programme and a new beginning. It will be a meaningful occasion to bring together and share  the achievements so far, strengthen the creative networks among participating filmmakers, and present a sustainable vision for continued ASEAN-ROK collaboration,” expressed Kang Sung Kyu, Director of Busan Film Commission.

The 2025 FLY Film Festival will screen a total of 28 films, including 4 feature films and 24 short films, created by the alumni of FLY, ASEAN-ROK Film Lab, and the ASEAN-ROK Post Lab programmes.

To date, FLY has nurtured 309 emerging filmmakers from Korea and ASEAN, driving exchange and growth within the region’s film industry. This festival will introduce domestic audiences to the distinctive colours and charms of ASEAN cinema, which is still rarely encountered in Korea.

The opening film of the 2025 FLY Film Festival is “I Wanna Be Your Lobster…”, a new feature film by director Pyae Zaw Phyo from Myanmar, who participated in the FLY Post Lab held in Seoul and Busan in May 2025. The film explores the anxieties, dreams, and relationships of youth through striking visuals and music, delicately capturing the sentiments of young generation in ASEAN. The film stars popular Myanmar singer-songwriter and actor Pan Yaung Chel and indie-band drummer Bon Bon, whose performances enhance the film’s musical richness and emotional immersion. Director Pyae Zaw Phyo along with the two lead actors will attend the special screening at the Opening Ceremony on 3 November 2025 at 18:30 in the Middle Teather, Busan Cinema Center.

Admissions to the screenings and forums are free, on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets are free of charge and can be collected at the Busan Cinema Center ticket box prior to each screening.
