Bali, Indonesia - 3 May 2024 

The 1st Project Steering Committee (PSC) meeting of the project titled “Critical Minerals Management and Strategy for Sustainable Environment in ASEAN” was held in Bali, Indonesia on 3 May 2024. The PSC was held in a hybrid form and attended by the representatives of Vice-Chair of ASOMM, the Energy and Minerals Division of the ASEAN Secretariat, the Mission of the Republic of Korea (ROK) to ASEAN and ASEAN-Korea Program Management Team (AKPMT). 

The PSC Meeting was also attended by the project’s co-proponents and co-implementing agencies, the representatives from the Coordinating Committee for Geoscience Programme in East & Southeast Asia (CCOP), the Geological Agency of Indonesia (GAI), Ministry of Energy & Mineral Resources, and the Korea Institute of Geoscience & Mineral Resources (KIGAM) were also attended and briefed the PSC members about the project in general, and particularly the planned activities in 2024. 

Chaired by Mr. Sieng Chamrong from the Ministry of Mine and Energy of Cambodia, the representative of the current Chair of the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Minerals (ASOMM), he acknowledged the importance of this project for the interests of and potential implication to ASEAN Member States (AMS) and ASEAN. Also, he expressed ASEAN’s appreciation to Korea’s financial support through the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Fund (AKCF) and, recognized the potentiality of ASEAN-Korea cooperation by implementing this project. 

As the outcome of the meeting, the PSC members officially adopted its Terms of Reference (ToR) as its first action. Further, the co-implementing agencies, CCOP and KIGAM, introduced the project in its entirety and briefed the members about the upcoming project activities in 2024, particularly the 1st project activity in early July in Jakarta, Indonesia.
