Since its launch in July 2024, the “Critical Minerals Management and Strategy for Sustainable Environment in ASEAN” project, jointly proposed by the Coordinating Committee for Geoscience Programmes in East & Southeast Asia (CCOP) and the Geological Agency of Indonesia (GAI), has continued to enhance regional capacity in sustainable critical minerals resources management.

As part of the project’s implementation, the 2nd In-Class Training Course is being held from 23 June to 4 July 2025 in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. This two-week training brings together young professionals, technical experts, and government officials from ASEAN Member States (AMS), providing them with opportunities to deepen their knowledge and techniques of advanced mineral exploration technologies. Topics covered during the training include remote sensing and drone-assisted data collection, geological and geographical modeling, geophysical survey techniques, and data interpretation. As co-implementing agency, the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM), will also showcase their capabilities in mineral exploration to the participants.

This in-class training serves as a foundation for the participants to join the upcoming 1st In-Situ Training Course, which will be held in West Java, Indonesia, in August and September 2025.
