On 12-13 November 2025, a two-day capacity building workshop on Technology-driven Solutions for Air Pollution in ASEAN was held by UN-ESCAP in cooperation with Indonesia’s Ministry of Environment in Bali as part of the Clean Air for Sustainable ASEAN (CASA) project supported by the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Fund (AKCF).

By fostering regional collaboration and embracing digital innovation, this workshop aimed to strengthen the capacity of ASEAN Member States government officials in applying technology-driven environmental management. It introduced advanced data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and collaborative digital innovation to address the region’s complex air pollution challenges across the ASEAN region. The theme was developed based on constructive inputs from the participants during the previous CASA workshop held in Vientiane in April 2025.

Through this workshop, the participants are expected to be able to apply standardized AI for air quality monitoring and adaptable dashboards for use across the ASEAN region, contributing to cleaner air and healthier communities in the long term.

The workshop brought together government officials and experts from ASEAN Member States’ environment ministries, as well as technology innovators, data scientists, and environmental specialists from the private sector and international organization.

The CASA project has been implemented since 2023 to provide comprehensive support for ASEAN Member States in mitigating air pollution and its negative impacts on health through political, scientific, and technical measures. The project is co-implemented by UN-ESCAP and Seoul National University.
