The ASEAN-Korea Cooperation for Methane Mitigation (AKCMM) project held the 2nd Methane Reduction Committee (MRC) Meeting in the Philippines on 28 August 2025 in Quezon City, the Philippines. As part of the AKCMM project implemented by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), the MRC meeting serves to oversee the management and supervision of the project at the national level.

The half-day meeting discussed updates on the project implementation and budget, key points from the 1st MRC Meeting, as well as finalised the focus sector for project implementation. During the meeting, the MRC selected agriculture and waste as the focus sectors for the implementation of the methane reduction projects.

The meeting was followed by study tours to waste-to-energy facilities and research institutions working on methane mitigation on 28-29 August 2025. The study tour formed part of the Methane Reduction Capacity Building Program, designed to improve the technical skills necessary for the committee in performing its functions by providing knowledge on methane emission sources, mitigation strategies, and measurement techniques.

The study tour included visits to a 1.5-MW landfill methane recovery and power generation facility in Quezon City, an 8.19-MW facility in Rodriguez, Rizal, the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in Los Baños, and the University of the Philippines-Los Baños (UPLB). Through these visits, participants observed processes and tools for methane emission measurement and mitigation in the waste, agriculture, and livestock sectors.
