Virtual Kick-off Meeting of the “Development of ASEAN Open Data Dictionary for ASEAN Connectivity”

JEJU/ONLINE 5 April 2021 – The National Information Society Agency (NIA) virtually convened the Kick-off meeting of the “Development of ASEAN Open Data Dictionary for ASEAN Connectivity” on 5 April 2021.

With the support from the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Fund (AKCF), the project aims to (i) improve the efficiency of government service delivery and private sector innovation through the shared data in ASEAN and (ii) establish the foundation for the open data network in ASEAN region by developing ‘ASEAN Open Data Dictionary’ and building the capacity for ASEAN connectivity. Furthermore, the project is developed in order to contribute to the three major ASEAN initiatives on open data, including Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity 2025 (MPAC 2025), ASEAN ICT Master Plan 2020 (AIM2020) and ASEAN Community Statistical System Strategic Plan 2016-2025.

Chair of the ASEAN Connectivity Coordinating Committee H.E. Ambassador Pengiran Hairani Pengiran Tajuddin appreciated the ROK’s contribution to the project that paves the way for establishing the open data network in ASEAN region. Minister of the Mission of the Republic of Korea to ASEAN Mr. Changnyun Kim highlighted that the ROK through ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Fund is committed to continuously support the ASEAN Member States in response to the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and digital transformation. Director of International Cooperation Bureau of Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) Mr. Sungjoon Choi mentioned that the MSIT will utilise and share its expertise and experience with ASEAN Members States so as to enable the open data network establishment in the region.

Attended by more than 90 representatives from ten ASEAN Member States and Korea, including ASEAN Connectivity Coordinating Committee (ACCC), ASEAN Community Statistical System (ACSS) Committee and ASEAN Digital Senior Officials Meeting (ADGSOM), NIA gave an overview on the current open data status of ASEAN Members States, as well as the project activities and plans. In the kick-off meeting, the relevant stakeholders shared feedback and input on the project, reaffirming the collective efforts for the successful implementation of the project.
