Regional consultative meeting on Promoting the Establishment of Regional Victim Assistance Network

Jakarta, December 2022 - The ASEAN Regional Mine Action Center (ARMAC) hosted a regional consultative meeting on Promoting the Establishment of Regional Victim Assistance Network. As part of the “Enhance Victim Assistance Programme in the ASEAN Member States”, the regional meeting is an extension of the national consultations aiming to promote the establishment of a Regional Victim Assistance Network (VAN).
The regional consultation provided a platform for the victim assistance services/implementation from explosive ordnance (EO) affected and non-affected countries to share their best practices and challenges. Further, the participants were invited to discuss and provide feedback to the initial draft of the VAN’s Terms of Reference (ToR).
The one-day consultative meeting was held in Nusa Dua, Bali on 5 December 2022. The meeting was officiated by H.E. Mr. Yeap Samnang, Ambassador / Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Cambodia to ASEAN and H.E. Mr. Kwon Hee-seog, Ambassador of the Mission of the Republic of Korea to ASEAN. Attended by the total of 38 participants from the ten AMS, international and national organization, the meeting was led Mr. Prum Suonpraseth, Executive Director ASEAN Regional Mine Action Center.
The consultative meeting is expected to produce the first draft of Regional VAN ToR which will be presented in its first Regional Workshop which will be held in 2023.
