National Consultative Meeting “Enhance Victim Assistance Programme in the ASEAN Member States”

Jakarta, 20 July 2022 – National consultative meeting of the project entitled, “Enhance Victim Assistance Programme in the ASEAN Member States” were held in Bangkok, Thailand and Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar on 29 June and 8 July 2022 with the support of ASEAN – ROK Cooperation Fund (AKCF). Under the theme to support the establishment of regional ERW Victim Assistance Regional Network, the consultative meetings were hosted by Regional Mine Action Center (ARMAC).

The two meetings were held in collaboration between ARMAC with the General of Department of Empowerment for Persons with Disability of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS-DEP) of Thailand and General of Department of Rehabilitation of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief, and Resettlement of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

These meetings are part of the series of national consultative meetings planned to promote the establishment of the Regional Victim Assistance Network (Regional VAN) following the first and the second National Consultative meetings that were held in Phnom Penh and Ha Noi. The meeting allowed participants to share knowledge and best practices on victim services implementation in the country as well as the establishment of a Regional VAN through the lens of the International Mine Action Standard (IMAS) 13.10, and the integrated approach to victim assistance and voice of victims.

 

Both meetings were led by ARMAC Executive Director Mr. Prum Suonpraseth together with the Director General of MSDHS-DEP of Thailand, Ms. Saranpat Anumatrajkit and Mr. Aung Kyaw Moe, Director General (DG) of Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief, and Resettlement of the Republic of Union of Myanmar.

 

The meetings were participated by over 60 participants in person and online from all relevant national and international networks and stakeholders (including EO survivors/victims) working with and/or supporting the victim of EO and other persons with disabilities.
