D-CAB In-Country Training on the occasion of UN Global Platform 2022 and ASEAN-related Activities

BALI, INDONESIA 24-28 May 2022 – D-CAB (Disaster Risk Management Capacity Building Program for ASEAN Member States) In-Country Training is jointly organised by the ASEAN Secretariat and the NDTI (Republic of Korea's National Civil Defense and Disaster Management Training Institute).

The programme showcases ASEAN-Korea commitment in advancing the joint effort in building a disaster-resilient ASEAN Community. The training took place in Bali, Indonesia, from 24 to 28 May, 2022 in line with United Nations Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GP2022) from 23 to 28 May.

Attended by 20 senior disaster management officials of ten AMS NDMOs (National Disaster Management Offices), D-CAB training provided informative lectures, such as Korea’s DRR Strategies (focused on flood countermeasures), Disaster Communication, Smart Disaster Management, Emergency Action Plan (EAP) and Disaster Response Training in Korea and Introduction to Korea’s Disaster Management System and Policies, in order to ensure improving disaster risk governance in AMS , understanding of latest developments and trends in DRR, capacity building for a disaster resilient community and raising awareness of best practices in managing pandemic such as COVID-19.  

In this respect, the most relevant and necessary lecture topics are selected based on feedback from trainees who have previously attended ASEAN-NDTI courses. Furthermore, each lecture is given in an interactive and engaging manner by eliciting active involvement from participants and using a variety of picture and video materials.

Furthermore, by covering relevant DRR strategies and the latest trends, as well as organising the in-country training on the occasion of the GP2022, the ASEAN-NDTI program contributes to achievement GP2022 objectives, particularly in the areas of 'innovative and good practices,' 'increased awareness on good practices for reducing risk and building resilience using innovative approaches, tools, and methodologies,' and so on.

As a side event of DCAB In-Country Training, ASEAN-related Activities, which aim to showcase strong partnerships between ASEAN and partners, was held on 25 May 2022. In the ASEAN-related Activities, ‘Signing ceremony of the ASEAN-IFRC MoU in Strengthening Cooperation in Disaster Management’, ‘Launch of ASEAN Framework on Anticipatory Action in Disaster Management’, ‘Opening of ASEAN-NDTI D-CAB Project In-Country Training for ASEAN Member States’ were conducted.

D-CAB Project will implement a series of invitational trainings and study visits in Korea.
