AKCF Briefing for CPR Highlights Achievements and Future Priorities

A briefing for the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN (CPR) was held today, 22 September 2025 in Jakarta, where the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Fund (AKCF) Annual Report 2024, mid-year updates for 2025, and upcoming priorities moving forward were presented. 

The session was opened with remarks from Ambassador of the Republic of Korea (ROK) to ASEAN, H.E. Lee Jang Keun, and Permanent Representative of Thailand to ASEAN, H.E. Phantipha Iamsudha Ekarohit, followed by a video message from the Secretary-General of ASEAN, H.E. Dr. Kao Kim Hourn.  

During the remarks, they welcomed the briefing as an important platform to take stock of the progress achieved through AKCF-supported projects and expressed confidence that AKCF will continue to play a pivotal role in advancing the ASEAN-ROK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership by supporting tangible programmes and projects that directly benefit the peoples of ASEAN and the ROK. 

Mr. Lee Sang Min, Team Leader of the ASEAN-Korea Programme Management Team (AKPMT), presented the key highlights of the AKCF Annual Report 2024 and shared future directions for the AKCF. The presentation showcased the results of AKCF’s initiatives across its priority areas from education and training, culture and arts, economic resilience, to environment, safety, and peace.  

Throughout the discussion, CPR members acknowledged AKCF’s role in strengthening ASEAN-ROK relations and welcomed updates on AKCF projects, including newly launched projects that address regional priorities. The session also provided an opportunity to exchange views on the importance of further socialising the project proposal submission process and AKCF Manual to interested stakeholders across the region.  

The briefing reaffirmed AKCF’s commitment to delivering tangible, inclusive, and sustainable benefits for the peoples of ASEAN and the Korea through high-impact cooperation projects. The briefing was attended by members of the CPR as well as representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat, ROK Mission to ASEAN, and the AKPMT.
